Barca looking for ter Stegen back-up

Barcelona are now seriously considering who will serve as back-up for Marc-Andre ter Stegen next season.

Mundo Deportivo reports that while current reserve goalkeeper Jose Pinto could continue, there are increasing doubts regarding the age of the veteran, even though it is acknowledged his performances have not yet dipped.

Victor Valdes is to leave Camp Nou this summer and ter Stegen has been agreed as his replacement, although the deal with Borussia Monchengladbach has not yet been completed.

But Barca are confident they will come to terms with the Bundesliga side and have moved on to finding a new No. 2 custodian.

Barca are in need of a player who would be capable of covering for ter Stegen for an extended period in the case of an injury, but also a player content to remain on the bench for much of the time.

The names listed by Mundo include Valencia’s Diego Alves and Kiko Casilla of Espanyol.

Also said to be on the shortlist are Claudio Bravo from Real Sociedad and Miguel Angel Moya, currently with Getafe.

Coach Tata Martino is expected to weigh in on the decision whether or not to extend Pinto’s stay at the club.

The fee for ter Stegen is expected to be around €12m.
