Moreno to replace Coentrao at Madrid

Real Madrid hope to replace Fabio Coentrao with Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno.

A summer approach is said by AS to be likely for the left-back, who has a buyout clause of €30m in his contract.

Moreno is considered to be the ideal back-up for Marcelo, who would remain first-choice at the Santiago Bernabeu.

AS adds that it is further evidence of Madrid’s policy of buying young, Spanish players after the signings of Dani Carvajal, Asier Illarramendi and Isco. Along with Alvaro Morata, they were all part of the Spain Under-21 side that won the European Championships last summer.

Moreno signed a new Sevilla contract in September but is also attracting attention from Rafael Benitez at Napoli, although the player wants to remain in Spain – and ideally at Madrid, according to AS’ sources.

Indeed, Sevilla are said to expect Moreno will be a Madrid player by next season.

Moreno could have joined Castilla on a free transfer, he revealed in October, while Sevilla’s sporting director, Monchi, confirmed interest from Napoli but no other clubs.
