Sevilla Coach Unai Emery has conceded that while his team wanted to beat Elche, their performance meant they didn’t deserve to.
An 81st minute Cristian Herrera goal put Elche in front only for Daniel Carrico to score two minutes from time, denying Elche a first La Liga win since November.
Emery insisted to reporters at Sevilla went to Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero in search of the three points but couldn’t complain with only taking one back to Andalucía.
“We wanted to win but we didn’t, and nor did we deserve to, even though we had clear chances.
“A draw is a fair result.
“We’ve not been good enough against a team that needed to win to help against relegation.
“We weren’t better than them. Our tackling and our passing wasn’t good enough.
“We couldn’t control the game and we wanted to keep a high line. Playing against an opponent who risk their life is very hard.”
