Former Levante striker Felipe Caicedo is set to return to Spanish football on a six-month loan deal with Valencia.
Valencia have made signing a striker a priority for the transfer window and after a move for Eduardo Vargas was held up, turned to Caicedo, who currently plays for Lokomotiv Moscow.
Caicedo has publically confirmed he wants the move, Marca reports, telling Radio Valencia that he had made sealing the transfer his priority.
Valencia’s move for Vargas has stalled over Napoli’s demand of a €2m fee. The Chilean was Valencia’s first choice but if a deal cannot be agreed, they will confirm Caicedo.
Caicedo has extensive experience of La Liga, having previously played on loan for both Malaga and Levante. His time at Levante was more fruitful, scoring 13 goals in 27 games, with the Ecuadorian and his family keen to return to the area.
Levante originally signed Caicedo on loan from Manchester City and, immediately after making the deal permanent in 2011, sold the 25-year-old to Lokomotiv at a huge profit.
Should Valencia sign Caicedo, they will be forced to sell a member of the first team in order to adhere to the League’s financial rules, with Ever Banega a possible departure.
