‘Sevilla are aiming for fourth’

Unai Emery says that Sevilla must overcome the disappointment of exiting the Copa del Rey, as they are targeting fourth spot in La Liga.

Los Nervionenses were eliminated at home in the Cup this midweek by Racing Santander and this weekend head out to Villarreal for Week 17’s fixture.

For their Coach, moving on from the Cup upset is key, as he has identified where their next objective should lie.

“The elimination from the Cup has been a disappointment for everyone, a failure that we cannot forget, but we have to continue and hold ambition, because we have reasons for this,” Emery has reflected to reporters today.

“Our goals are important and clear, and the team can turn this upside down. It is our obligation. La Liga on Saturday gives us a new opportunity to continue taking steps in the construction and consolidation of this team, endorsing the steps that we are taking in this competition.

“I know Villarreal, they are a very good team, with a good organisation at all levels, who by accident, dropped down to the Segunda.

“But their place is in the Primera and in the positions at the top. They also have a very good Coach who has strengthened and defined their style.

“Beyond the three at the top, Villarreal are alongside us, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Getafe and we shall see who is able to take fourth place.

“There is still much to come in the League, but these three points are important right now. We want to be in the European places, and to keep our eye on fourth, because we have potential.

“We are improving, logically, but the goal has to be that fourth place from now until the end of the season.

“Is that too ambitious? From the beginning we set ambitious targets, then these have been condition by the competition. After losing one of them [the Cup], we will focus our efforts on the League and then the Europa League.

“This team has overcome adversity and we are improving aspects of our game. We must have a realistic ambition for the European places and also take fourth place into our focus. Our goal, depending on how we go from here on out, has to be that.”
