Ronaldo: Madrid is my home

Cristiano Ronaldo has enthused at his happiness at Real Madrid, how ‘people like Gareth Bale’ and on working with Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.

This week Portuguese gave an interview on British radio and discussed a number of topics relating to life at the Santiago Bernabeu, starting with if he is happy in the Spanish capital now.

"Yes. This is why I signed the new deal. This is my house, my home,” Ronaldo responded on TalkSport.

“I feel unbelievable here, I love the club, I love the people, I love the supporters. I have everything so this is why I signed a new deal.

“I don’t know when the end of my career will be but at this moment I’m so proud here and I’m happy.”

The 28-year-old has struck up an early understanding with summer signing Gareth Bale.

“He’s doing amazing. He started a little bit slow with injuries and small problems and it’s normal because he didn’t do the pre-season.

“Then afterwards what’s happened with him is a lot of pressure. It’s hard but I think he’s now in a good way, he’s integrated more in the team.

“People like him, the supporters and the players want him [here]. He’s a fantastic player and I hope he can help us win trophies.”

Ronaldo is working this year under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane, among others.

“[Ancelotti] is a fantastic man and fantastic person. He was a player before so he has experience of how to deal with players.

“I’m very glad to work with him I have learnt many things with him and his staff, so I’m very happy.

“Zizou gives his experience as a player especially for the young players which is fantastic. I’m very glad to work with him because he was a fantastic player and he has a lot of experience so for me it’s perfect. I like to be around the best.”

The forward played a key role in helping Portugal qualify for the 2014 World Cup, scoring all four of the national team’s goals in their aggregate win over Sweden in last month’s play-offs.

“[I’m] very happy with what my national team have done. I think I helped Portugal to go through to the World Cup and I’m very glad for that.

“I’m happy for me and for my teammates. The next day after the game you realised what you have done.

“In Portugal everyone speaks about the national team and we realised what we did. It was a fantastic moment for me, for the national team, for the Portuguese and for many supporters in Brazil, too.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic? He’s a good player, he’s shown the last few years that he’s a fantastic player. He scores many goals and important goals.

“He’s playing at a very good level all the time. It’s good when I play against him, it’s always good for the fans to see.”
