Iker, Ramos value home advantage

Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos say Real Madrid have respect for Schalke but also the ‘advantage’ of being at home for the second leg of their European tie.

Los Blancos this week have learned that they will face off against the Bundesliga outfit in the Last 16 of the Champions League.

“They are very strong physically and play well on the break,” club captain Casillas has reflected to his club’s official website this week.

“We have the advantage of the second leg at home but we’ll go to Germany to win and try to go through to the next round.

“Maybe they are not one of the favourites to win the Champions League, but we will have to play very professionally and respect the other team. We hope to go through to the next round.”

Vice-captain Ramos also reflected something similar, pressing that home advantage will help.

“Schalke 04 are a team with important players and they are dangerous on the break. They are a team that are not as famous as some others, but it will be a tough game against a team who have deserved to qualify for this stage.

“We have the advantage of playing the second leg at home and that helps, but German teams defend very well and are organized.

“Schalke 04 are a dangerous team on the break and have some important players.

“We’re looking forward to the game because it’s a competition that we really love. Like all Real Madrid fans, we’re hoping to go as far as possible in the competition and we’ll take this game seriously and respect our opponents.”
