Tricky trips for Valencia, Betis

Valencia and Real Betis have been handed tricky trips in the Europa League’s Round of 32, whilst it could be a Seville derby in the Last 16.

Valencia, who topped Group A in the group phase, have been drawn against Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kyev, although they may fancy their chances against a side who have struggled to progress beyond the Last 16 of this competition in the last three seasons.

Los Che then face the prospect of a meeting with Serie A outfit Lazio in the Last 16, should they and the Italians both progress.

Group H winners Sevilla will play Slovenian outfit Maribor for a first ever competitive meeting. Maribor, who have won one of their previous four matches against Spanish opposition in Europe, finished behind Rubin Kazan in Group D.

Real Betis, meanwhile as group runners-up in Group I, were in the second pot for today’s draw and must overcome Rubin Kazan in the Round of 32. At this stage of the competition for the first time in eight years, Los Beticos will play the Russians who defeated Atletico Madrid at this same stage last year and then eliminated Levante in last year’s Last 16.

Meanwhile, should both Seville outfits make it through, then they will set up an intriguing city derby in the Last 16.

First legs of the Round of 32 will be played on February 20 and second legs on February 27, with Valencia and Sevilla both at home for the second legs and Betis away, based on their positions in the group stage.
