‘Atleti want to continue to the end’

Thibaut Courtois has mused of Atletico Madrid’s desire to continue their current form through to the end of the season.

Atleti are currently keeping pace with Barcelona at the top of La Liga, and have their young goalkeeper hopeful, even if in the next few rounds of League action moving into January have both the Catalans and Sevilla to face.

“We know that we have some tough weeks coming up. Here, points could be lost,” Courtois has reflected to his club’s official website.

“The win at home to Valencia was good. I believe that we have a very competitive team. If anyone is injured or suspended, there is another ready to play.

“We hope to continue like this until the end.”

The Belgian was talking after Atleti’s 3-0 win over Valencia, where the scoreline hides a difficult first half for Los Colchoneros.

“I think the first half was quite difficult. We could not create many chances, Valencia played well, they had the ball, but then they didn’t create with it.

“And then at half-time the Coach said that we had to play together as a team and not look to win things alone.

“And so we did. With Diego Costa’s first goal, then the second from Raul. Also, the fans helped. They have been very good and helped us in a difficult game.”
