‘Spain number one for a reason’

Netherlands Coach Louis Van Gaal has admitted the Spain are favourites to top World Group B.

La Roja have been drawn with Holland, Chile and Australia for the tournament next summer, and the Oranje boss has conceded that Vincente del Bosque’s men will be the team to beat.

“It’s not an easy group,” he told AS. “But there are other very complicated groups. There’s one with three world champions.

“But it is what it is and we have to get on with it – it’s not worth complaining about.

“Spain are the world number ones and we’re number nine. I think that says it all.

“But we can’t just focus on the match with Spain – Chile are also a great team and Australia have nothing to lose.

“I am confident that we can get out of the group, but we will have to fight.

“I think Brazil are favourites because they’re at home, but Spain are the champions. It’s not going to be easy for any one.”
