Malaga face Osasuna in the Copa del Rey this evening, and Bernd Schuster has admitted it is ‘a special competition’.
The Costa del Sol outfit host their Liga rivals in the Cup tonight, and the Coach has conceded he is looking forward to making his managerial debut in the tournament with Los Boquerones.
“It’s a very special competition and we’ll try as hard as we can, match by match, to get as far as possible,” he told a Press conference.
“We’ll see what happens, but it’s important to remember that not conceding a goal is crucial in the Cup.
“We need to have patience and secure a strong result in preparation for the return leg.
“I’ve had more success in this tournament when I was a player and since I’ve been a Coach, than in any other.
“I reached a Copa del Rey final with Getafe CF as Coach. It’s such an exciting competition for me, and I hope all the players feel the same way.
“Osasuna have changed a lot with their new coach, Javi Gracia. They tend to focus much more on possession and touches than we’ve been used to.
“When we faced them in the League we made silly mistakes for 15-20 minutes but then improved in the second half, so I hope we find the key tomorrow and play well.”
