Thibaut Courtois is the notable absentee from Atletico Madrid’s squad named for the start of their Copa del Rey title defence, due to a thigh injury.
Atleti travel out to Sant Andreu this weekend for a first leg Round of 32 clash without their Belgian international regular between the sticks.
“He will be tested and the medical team will inform us. The physio told me that he was out with discomfort,” Diego Simeone explained in today’s Press conference.
Reports are that Courtois picked up a strain in his right thigh muscle, but that his omission at this stage is seen more as a precaution than a necessity.
Simeone has otherwise named a strong Atletico squad.
