FIFA have announced the five goalkeepers in contention to make the 2013 FIFPro World XI, with Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas up for contention.
The Barcelona and Real Madrid ‘keepers are up against Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon, Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Bayern’s Manuel Neuer to take the gloves in the World XI to be announced at January’s FIFA Ballon d’Or award ceremony at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on January 13, 2014.
FIFA are announcing the 55 shortlisted names for the World XI by position across the coming week, ahead of next Monday unveiling shortlists also for the FIFA Ballon d’Or, FIFA’s Women’s World Player of the Year, FIFA World Coaches of the Year for Men’s and Women’s Football and FIFA Puskas Award.
FIFPro’s annual World XI is determined by votes collected by the World Footballers’ Association across 62 countries, their member unions and related players’ organisations.
