Barca injury talk tires Alcaraz

After seeing his Granada side hit for four, Lucas Alcaraz complained on Saturday evening of the focus on Barcelona’s extensive injury list.

Despite missing a number of players, the Catalans comfortably dispatched with Granada in Week 14 thanks to penalties from Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas and goals from Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez.

For the defeated Coach, the 4-0 result hopefully ends talk of the Blaugrana’s injury crisis.

“If the Press decides that this is something to talk about then we are wasting time trying to combat it,” mused Alcaraz post-match.

“We have played against a team with a €590m budget with five world champions in the team, against another of €33m and we have only spoken about their casualties.

“Hopefully now we can talk in the coming week about ours.

“We have not been decisive today. At 2-0 and with 11 against 11 we thought we could get a draw. We remained ambitious, the team did not hide and we wanted the ball.”

Granada, who saw Manuel Iturra sent off for two yellow cards, notably looked to test Jose Manuel Pinto from long range today.

“These decisions are made by the players. Piti is ahead in that front.

“Iturra? He is a player in form and I was not going to take him off because I was thinking about the draw. We had to take the risks.

“Maybe we should have changed him when at 3-0 because now we are without him for the next match. Nyom, remember, had a great chance before Alexis scored their third.

“Overall? I’m happy, although disgruntled with the circumstances. We deserved a closer result.”
