Sevilla not favourites insists Emery

Sevilla boss Unai Emery does believe his team start as favourites against cross-city rivals Real Betis at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.

Los Beticos enter the game sitting last in the table and with grave doubts as to whether injured strikers Jorge Molina and Ruben Castro will take part.

However, Emery, who has refused to give interviews during the week and had his team training behind closed doors, told a Press conference that it will all count for nothing come kick-off this weekend.

“No, we don’t think we are favourites. We must be very cautious and show respect because we have prepared for this game knowing it is going to be very difficult.

“It’s a match where we must all stick together. The expectation is great as the fans will remember the 5-1 victory from last season.”

The former Valencia boss says Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido is always telling him just what this derby means.

“He does it constantly, so that gives us the drive and passion that ensures we will be at our best. I’ve also had advice from [veteran former Sevilla player and Coach] Manolo Cardo, but I’ll keep that to myself as he’s played in and won many derbies,” joked Emery.
