Del Bosque: An awkward match

Vicente del Bosque has admitted that Equatorial Guinea were ‘awkward’, as Spain ran out 2-1 winners on Saturday.

Goals from Santi Cazorla and Juanfran gave La Roja a win in Malabo this evening, but the game was marred by its physical nature, as Xabi Alonso was brought off.

“It was an awkward match for us,” he told reporters. “They were physically strong and did not let us play.

“We have wanted to play our game, but often we were inhibited.

“Xabi was brought off just as a precaution.”
