Mata: Same ambition as first time

Juan Mata has commented on his ambition to always make the most of every opportunity afforded him with Spain.

The playmaker is in the latest squad for friendlies in Equatorial Guinea and South Africa, but is enduring an indifferent season at club level, in and out of the Chelsea team under Jose Mourinho.

With La Roja, though, the 25-year-old remains focused on his objective to demonstrate his ability when possible.

“Whenever I come to play with Spain it is with the ambition I had the first time,” Mata told reporters at today’s Press conference.

“If I make an impression then all the better, but I try to do my best regardless. My goal is to play as many games as I can and to get minutes more and more.

“There is a long way to go until the World Cup, every game is with it in mind. I was at South Africa at a young age, we made history and now we would like to do so again at a country that is a birthplace of football.”

Mata turned his attention to tomorrow afternoon’s match in Malabo.

“For them it will be a very important game and they will give everything. We will have to watch out for the likes of Juvenal and Obina.

“Also, I coincided with Ili at Oviedo, whilst Ivan Bolado was at Racing. In the end, we know they are players that are going to look to make it difficult for us.

“We always try to give the best image of ourselves and for the shirt wherever we go. We intend to look good and see that the Equatoguineans have a good time.

“There has been a great reception from the fans here, from getting off the plane to arriving at the hotel.”
