Alonso can’t wait for Spain return

Xabi Alonso has claimed that he is looking forward to returning to national team action after missing six months through injury.

The Real Madrid midfielder hasn’t played for La Roja since undergoing groin surgery at the end of last season.

The ex-Liverpool man missed the Confederations Cup and qualifiers against Georgia and Belarus, but is back for friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa this month.

“I am really looking forward to be back playing for Spain,” he told reporters at the unveiling of Spain’s new kit.

“I want to enjoy a productive season and hopefully, be at 2014 Brazil. I wasn’t able to take part at the Confederations Cup and watching it from afar was quite frustrating for me.”
