Barcelona have reported that Cesc Fabregas’ reason for withdrawing from the Spain squad was down to a sprained knee.
The midfielder was forced off during the latter stages of Barca’s 4-1 win at Real Betis on Sunday night and then confirmed on Monday by the Spanish Football Federation as having been replaced by Marc Bartra due to injury.
Barca have released their own statement reporting the same news and adding that Fabregas will be sidelined for a week, with tests revealed a sprained ligament in his right knee.
