Villa wants more Atleticos in Spain squad

David Villa has claimed that ‘the more Atletico Madrid players’ in the Spain squad ‘the better’.

The Rojiblancos goalscorer has been called up for La Roja’s friendlies with Equatorial Guinea and South Africa later this month – as has teammate and strike partner Diego Costa.

“Let’s hope even more Atleti players get called – the more Atléticos at the World Cup, the merrier,” he told reporters.

“Today, Costa had a touch of flu but he should be able to play against Villarreal [on Sunday].

“We’re doing well but as the boss says, we’ll just keep taking each game as it comes.

“Let’s see if we can come away from Villarreal with all three points.”

The attacker then commented on Atleti’s Copa del Rey clash with lower tier outfit UE Sant Andreu.

“Atlético have to show why we won the competition last season and we need to do that right from Day One. Of course we need to be humble but believe that we can retain the trophy.”
