Del Bosque: Idea is to continue

Vicente del Bosque has commented once more that ‘the idea is to continue’ as Spain Coach for another two years.

On from leading La Roja to automatic qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil top of their UEFA qualifying group, the 62-year-old has been reported as set to extend his contract beyond its expiry next summer for a further two years.

Having already commented in favour of this, the former Real Madrid Coach has once more indicated that an agreement to stay on is imminent.

“We're starting from a position which is not new – the Federation has, for many years, had a system where once qualification is achieved, they renew the Coach’s contract,” Del Bosque has considered today.

“There is no exception with me and the idea is to continue, although we know that things can wear over the years. However, that has not been the case with us, there has not been much wear.

“When I arrived [as Coach], everyone told me that it was the worst time to take on the team – they had won a tournament.

“I thought it was the best time, that we had the momentum of having won the European Championships, whilst for the group of players who I had…

“Our chances in Brazil? In football there are cycles and this is one for Spanish football. And we must take care not to step out of line.

“We have to believe in ourselves, but not think that we are the best in  the world, which is something I repeat.”
