Marcelino Garcia Toral commended Villarreal for their performance against Getafe, despite falling to a surprise 2-0 defeat.
The Yellow Submarine saw goals either end of the match from Ciprian Marica and Pablo Sarabia determine the game, whilst the homes side also played the entire second half with 10 men thanks to Pablo Iniguez’s red card.
“Today was not our day. In many things we have gone backwards and it seemed that we could not win no matter what happened,” Marcelino mused post-match.
“If we have to lose a game I want it in that way. The team was involved and we were superior to Getafe except in the first few minutes. We are to be satisfied with the game, although it is true that we did not have the wisdom in the areas.
“This defeat had to come some day. It stays with me that the team had five chances to score in the first half and that the opponent took advantage of our error.
“Then we were the better side despite playing with one less and so we are frustrated with the defeat. We are tremendously proud of the attitude of the players.
“If anyone should have won this game then it should have been Villarreal.”
