Alcaraz upset by penalties

Lucas Alcaraz felt Atletico Madrid benefited from the referee in defeating his Granada side 2-1 on Thursday night.

Week 11’s fixture saw Los Colchoneros pick up the away win, thanks to penalties in either half of the contest.

“In these types of games there are different criteria for both teams in terms of contact,” complained Alcaraz post-match.

“Atleti’s [first] penalty was decisive as it changed greatly the development of the game. Villa went down and instead of being booked for a dive got a penalty.

“Real Madrid, Espanyol, Athletic, it bothers me that all these home games have been decided by refereeing decisions against us, that have affected in different ways the chances of us getting something.

“I will focus on the play of the team, the attitude and the courage to take the pace of the game to a team like Atletico. They are a big team but they defended as a modest one in terms of aggressiveness, energy and mastery of space.

“it is not easy to create chances against an opponent like this. Such games need chances to be taken such as those we had early on.”
