Stoichkov: Madrid looked out of ideas

Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov has claimed that Real Madrid ‘looked out of ideas’ against the Blaugrana last weekend.

The Catalan club beat their bitter rivals from the capital 2-1 on Saturday, and the former Bulgarian striker has admitted that Carlo Ancelotti’s men were second best throughout, whilst also commenting on the situation surrounding Iker Casillas at Santiago Bernabeu.

“I was disappointed with Ancelotti’s decisions during the Clasico,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“I think the penalty appeal was the least of their worries. For me, they looked out of ideas.

“Messi wasn’t at his best because he has played a lot and travelled extensively with the Argentina national team, but I still thought Madrid were poor.

“Despite what’s happening with Casillas, I still think he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the game.”

Stoichkov concluded by commenting on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

“For me, [Bayern Munich winger Franck] Ribery is the favourite to win the trophy.”
