‘Iniesta will sign Barca renewal’

Josep Maria Bartomeu has looked to dispel concern over delays in Andres Iniesta renewing at Barcelona, promising that he will become ‘one of the highest paid’.

The player is widely seen to have turned down the Catalans’ initial offer to extend his contract at the club.

Whilst Iniesta has commented publicly that the delay in talks is not about money and that his intention is to renew, one of Barca’s Vice-Presidents has today also looked to make clear that a deal is imminent.

“This is not the last renewal of Iniesta,” Bartomeu assured in talking to Barca TV today.

“Iniesta will renew, yes. Negotiations are underway and the two sides have the will to reach an agreement.

“The duration of the contract we will sign him to will be the maximum length allowed by law [five years].

“Iniesta will be one of the highest paid because he is the best player in Europe.”

Bartomeu was also asked of the club’s plans to perhaps dip into the January transfer market for a striker.

“There is no plan B to sign a striker unless there is the misfortune of a long-term injury.”
