Djukic: We need another defender

Miroslav Djukic has confirmed that Valencia ‘need’ to sign a replacement for Adil Rami in the winter transfer window.

The club have just offloaded the Frenchman to Milan for the rest of the season on loan, allowing him to immediately start training with the Italians in spite of remaining registered at Mestalla until January.

Removed from the club on disciplinary grounds, Rami will ‘need’ to be replaced, says Valencia’s Coach.

“We will start looking. It is necessary,” explained Djukic to reporters at today’s Press conference.

“In the youth team there are good centre-backs, but two of them are left-footed and at the moment it would not be worth calling them up. Alex Quintanilla is not playing for the B team either, so it would be contradictory to call him up.

“Rami? For several weeks now he has not been with us and it is a forgotten issue. We believe in the present and not Rami.

“The club has loaned him to Milan and we wish him well. To me, I am not relieved or glad or anything.”

Djukic was speaking ahead of Los Che’s home clash with Real Sociedad.

“We want to continue the streak and the progression that we have been on. And it especially important to pick up the three points against a direct rival.

“The international break? We were in a good moment, but the break has also come in handy. Now we must continue in the same vein as we were against Athletic.

“Real are a very good team with tremendous offensive potential. But when teams are not used to the Champions League, it often shows.

“But we are not thinking about them, but of ourselves.

“And revenge? We want to get into the Champions League positions. They are a direct rival and so the points always have more value. In addition, we are playing at home.”
