Fernando Hierro has revealed that he has the same back condition Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale has and that he has never required surgery for it.
It has been revealed during the international break that the Welshman has been diagnosed with a protruding disc in his back, raising concerns over his physical condition.
However, one of Los Blancos’ most prominent former players has revealed that he has had the same issue, never required surgery nor felt that it has affected him playing.
“Every patient is a case and is different,” considered Hierro to reporters this week.
“In my case, I played until I was 37. It is the medical services, the club and Coach who have to make a decision based on the information they have.
“After 18 years as a professional, I still enjoy playing football with my friends without ever having gone under the knife.
“Bale is a player who is atypical, his transfer was not closed until late…from the outside it is easy to review and draw conclusions, but it is the club, the Coach and medical services who have the data on his medical and physical level.
“If they decide he can start playing, it is because they see him as well, and if not, then it is because they understand that he needs a bit more time and adaptation at the club.”
