Iker Casillas has commented that if his situation at Real Madrid does not change within a few months, he may consider leaving.
The club captain has spent his entire career at the Santiago Bernabeu, but finds scrutiny on his immediate future and his continued involvement at international level increasing, in light of nine months of struggle to dislodge Diego Lopez from the Madrid starting XI.
“Of course I want to play, but you have to respect the Coach. These are his decisions,” Casillas has reflected to reporters today.
“The selfish players always want to play, but a good professional accepts things. I’d like to stay at Real Madrid because it is what I have dreamed of since childhood.
“What I must to is train as much as I can in order to play.
“Players go through times when if they are not a protagonist, many options run through their head. I’m human, I’m only a footballer. I’ve not played for nine months and it has also happened with me. I’m not a machine.
“Of course I want to stay here, win more titles with Real Madrid. Since my childhood I have wanted to be here, but one day I may have to take a decision.
“Today my goal is to fight, to try and play every day. If I didn’t want to, I would have gone to the President in September asking to leave, regardless of anything at Christmas. But I have decided I want to be a part of this team for a long time.
“But within three months if the situation doesn’t change and I am asked the same question, maybe the answer is that I am considering leaving.”
