‘Negredo has untapped potential’

Vicente del Bosque has sent a clear message to Alvaro Negredo: “He is a forward who plays beneath the capacity that he has.”

The Manchester City man provided a notable performance for La Roja in their 2-0 win over Georgia in Albacete, opening the scoring in the first half.

However, his national team Coach has suggested that there is still more to come.

“He is a forward who plays beneath the capacity that he has,” Del Bosque remarked to reporters post-match.

“He still has untapped potential.”

Uncertainty continues to surround which country Diego Costa will opt for, with Spain and Brazil both in the running.

“We have spoken with him, but will not create problems for him to play for the country that he wants to. He feels both Spanish and Brazilian.”

The Coach was talking after leading La Roja to the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer, topping Group I courtesy of Tuesday evening’s 2-0 win over Georgia.

“It is practically a routine because for many years we have been succeeding, but we appreciate that this is a major success of the Federation because Spain have been qualifying for tournaments long before me and these players came along.

“It has not been easy, we have struggled against smaller teams and we played for the group against a strong France, but we know we could achieve.

“We have qualified with austerity and restraint, but we know that it is important.”

Del Bosque was also asked about rumours of a new contract to be signed with the RFEF.
