Betis receive Ruben Castro boost

Striker Ruben Castro has handed Real Betis a boost by saying he could be ready to begin his recovery next Monday.

The experienced 32-year-old has played just one La Liga game this term after being ruled out with a hamstring injury, which was operated on last Thursday, and having felt no subsequent discomfort feels he could be back sooner than planned.

“I feel good. The surgeon who operated on me said it all went well. It is not bothering me at all so we’ll wait and see how it goes this week and maybe I can start next Monday.

“I need to wait until 10 days after the operation and if all is well I think I’ll do some swimming before joining up with the rest of the squad,” he told reporters after spending the afternoon visiting his teammates at the club’s training headquarters.

The Las Palmas-born player explained how he felt during his period of inactivity.

“The truth is that I saw my teammates playing and I really wanted to be out there with them, to help them, and that is what I’m going to do now.

“I’ve got another week or 10 days and then I’ll be able to join them. This week I’m going to come to every training session.

“I like being with the other players but at the moment all I can do is look,” he lamented.
