Pedro: Reina would suit Barca

Barcelona striker Pedro considers Pepe Reina would be a great addition to the club as Victor Valdes’ replacement.

The Liverpool goalkeeper, currently on loan with Napoli, began his professional career with Barca and made 30 La Liga appearances between 2000 and 2002 before joining Villarreal.

With Valdes this week reiterating his desire to depart the Camp Nou at the end of the season and having dropped a hint his destination could be Monaco, Pedro believes Reina’s acquisition would be a good move on behalf of the club.

“He knows the club as he was here some years ago, so he would be great goalkeeper for us.

“We would be delighted to welcome Pepe because we already know him. He would adapt very quickly,” Pedro told Esport3, before speaking of Barca boss Tata Martino’s rotation policy.

“Every player must rest at certain times of the season. There are a lot of games and you accumulate fatigue and tiredness, which could later affect your performance.”

The Tenerife-born 26-year-old also sprang to the defence of teammate Neymar after claims the Brazilian goes to ground far too easily.

“If you see all the fouls against him during a game you can see perfectly well that he is not a diver or an actor.

“He is constantly fouled and therefore must be looked after,” claimed Pedro.
