‘The important thing is we won’

Vicente Del Bosque was not entirely pleased with his Spain side after they defeat Belarus on Friday evening.

Goals from Xavi and Alvaro Negredo gave La Roja a 2-1 win over the Eastern Europeans, but the Coach wasn’t exactly delighted with his men.

“Everyone had the script for this game,” he told a Press conference. “Our rivals play against the same way.

“We did not make the most of the ball at moments, but the most important thing is that we won. We made some changes, and they worked.

“I was encouraged by Michu after watching him train. He has great spirit.

“It has been difficult for him here tonight, but we all have confidence in him.

“Then Negredo came off the bench and scored – that’s what we expect.”

Del Bosque then commented on the reasons why he picked Victor Valdes over Iker Casillas.

“This game and the Finland game are different situations. Casillas has played one game this month, so I thought it was appropriate that Valdes played.”
