‘Puyol the best in Barca’s history’

Carles Puyol has been labelled the ‘best player in Barcelona’s history’ by Patxi Salinas, boss of Segunda B outfit Sant Andreu.

Salinas’ team was beaten 4-1 by a Barca XI that included Puyol in a training match this week and he was full of praise for the Blaugrana captain, who has not played since undergoing knee surgery last March.

“Puyol is a machine. He is from another galaxy. He does not give you any breathing space, even in a friendly game,” he told Cadena COPE.

“He’s just returned from injury, played against Sant Andreu, and you can see the level of intensity and concentration he has.

“He doesn’t even let you think and is the best player in Barcelona’s history.”

Salinas was asked how long he sees the veteran 35-year-old plying his trade at the top level.

“Until he is 40 is probably asking too much, but I think he can go on until he is 37 or 38,” he maintained.
