Koke: Not a starter or a substitute

Koke Resurreccion has determined that he sees his role with Spain as only there to help as and when he is called upon, and in whatever position.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder featured for La Roja in last month’s World Cup qualifier away to Finland at right-back and heading into games this week with Belarus and Georgia, says he is open to whatever is asked of him.

“I am just working to help the team. In the last game, I had to play at full-back and I intend to work and play wherever the Coach puts me,” Koke has told reporters today.

“When I was told I’d be at full-back, I found it very clear. I am always happy to play, if at full-back or in midfield, the important thing is to help the team.

“My form? The best thing is that the praise pushes you to continue working, that it motivates you.

“I do not see myself as a starter nor a substitute for this team, I am just trying to enjoy the situation.”

Koke could be joined in future squads by club colleague Diego Costa.

“He is nothing like how he comes across on the pitch, he is a good teammate and of course I would be delighted if he was called up.”

The youngster was asked for his take on the possibility of Vicente del Bosque extending his contract beyond next summer.

“I hope he stays here for a long time, he gave me my debut, I have that relationship with him and I would love for him to continue because he has had some great results.”
