‘Tiki-taka is at Bayern’

Lothar Matthaus says that there are already signs that Pep Guardiola has instilled at Bayern Munich the tiki-taka style of play made famous at Barcelona.

The Bavarians are this season working under the former Barca Coach and in recent weeks have impressed with a possession-based style of play comparable in ways with that redeveloped at the Camp Nou during Guardiola’s era.

“I would say that tiki-taka has already reached Bavaria,” Matthaus reflected this week to Sky Deutschland.

“This is the football that we have seen in the past in Spain and these are the innovations at Bayern.”

Notable to the changes made at the Bavarians this season has been Philipp Lahm’s conversation into a central defensive midfielder.

“He smells the ball. He realises what the enemy is doing.

“He is so important for Guardiola because he is a defensive-minded player, not like Schweinsteiger or Toni Kroos.”
