Koke: World Cup? We’ll see

Koke Resurreccion says there is a long way to go in the season and he will have to do ‘very well’ if he is to stand a chance of making Spain’s World Cup squad.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder is in the latest squad for La Roja’s closing World Cup qualifiers with Belarus and Georgia.

However, he does not see that as evidence he is contention for a spot on the plane out to Brazil come next summer.

“I see before me now two important matches to qualify,” mused Koke to reporters today.

“At the same time there remains a lot of time and I will have to have done very well if I am to have a chance of going.

“My position? I will play where the Coach will put me and where I can help. He has seen me play at right-back and I have to try and help.

“It is a huge compliment to have Coach tell you that you are doing good things, it is something that keeps you working with enthusiasm and excitement.”

Koke is one of the main benefactors to Atleti’s continued improved form in La Liga. Los Colchoneros head into the international break with a 100 per cent record in Spain still intact.

“It is normal for the fans to get their hopes up for their team and to have the highest aspirations to win everything.

“But the players are realistic and the Coach has created this idea, we are fulfilling that and so far it is going very well.”
