‘Call-ups show Atleti’s form’

Thibaut Courtois has reflected that the increased presence of Atletico Madrid players at international level shows that the club are doing well.

Atleti have seen four players named in the Spanish national team for the first time in 21 years today, with Juanfran Torres rejoining the group to be alongside Koke Resurreccion, Mario Suarez and David Villa.

“For Atletico it is a very good thing, but not just because there are so many players with La Roja,” considered Courtois to reporters today.

“We also have others who go with their national teams and that is a sign that we are doing great things.

“Diego Costa’s possible call-up? If he chooses one national team or the other, it is down to him. He is a great striker and so is very difficult to stop, wherever he will play.”

Before the international break, which will also see Courtois and Atleti teammate Toby Alderweireld join up with Belgium for World Cup qualifying, Los Colchoneros host Celta Vigo on Sunday.

“It will be a match with the stadium packed and that is very important to us. We look to make good the victory achieved last week at Real Madrid.

“If we win, the victory in the derby will have even more value. Every game at the Calderon is special and this one must be won.”
