Alonso in line for Clasico?

Xabi Alonso’s recovery from injury is seen as ahead of schedule, with speculation suggesting that he could be back after the international break.

The midfielder was set a provisional return date to full fitness of the end of November after requiring surgery on a fractured metatarsal in late August.

However, it is believed that the 31-year-old’s recovery is progressing faster than expected and that he may be in line for a return to action as soon as the international break ends.

Mundo Deportivo speculate that the midfielder could play some part in Madrid’s Week 9 match at home to Malaga, opening up the increased likelihood that he will also be available for Week 10’s Clasico at the Camp Nou against Barcelona.

Alonso has not played since the end of last season and has also missed a majority of preseason, having been recovering from summer surgery on a persistent groin injury.

It was during his first few days on the training field after that procedure that the player picked up the metatarsal complaint.
