Players forced Ancelotti summit

Real Madrid’s players reportedly pressed upon Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane for a 25-minute meeting before training yesterday.

The club are in an uneasy state just weeks into the Italian Coach’s reign, thanks to some inconsistent performances and the weekend defeat in the League at home to Atletico Madrid.

Before Monday’s training, the players reportedly requested a meeting with Ancelotti and Zidane, to talk through the situation and warn of its severity.

In Ancelotti’s believed reluctance for the necessity of the meeting, COPE report that the players insisted, before a 25-minute meeting was held, led by Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.

The two club captains apparently made clear that the dressing room must pull together and, among other things, recognise that the only great player in the team at the moment is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ancelotti reportedly intervened only to confirm with the Portuguese that he backed this consensus for union.

The meeting also reportedly saw the players highlight Pepe’s behaviour towards Karim Benzema during the derby, where he was caught on camera criticising the Frenchman before Ramos’ intervention. The defender apparently accepted the group’s view and apologised to the striker.

After these events, it is understood that Ancelotti dined with club President Florentino Perez and general manager Jose Angel Sanchez, where they analysed the situation regarding the team.
