Diego Simeone has compared Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid to their Copa del Rey triumph of last season.
The Rojiblancos defeated their city rivals at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday thanks to a solitary goal from Diego Costa.
And the Argentine Coach has claimed it is the same feeling as winning the cup last term.
“The result is much better than anything,” he told a Press conference.
“I compare it to the final because winning a cup final at the stadium of your eternal rival is important. It has been very a very good performance.
“I congratulate my players because they have responded very well in a very important game.
“Looking at the table you would say yes [we are a title contender], but the economic power of Barcelona and Real Madrid is important.
“We will go game by game.”
Simeone then commented on goalscorer Costa.
“We all need to improve to grow. Every day I talk with him. There is no perfect player.
“The best of him is the illusion that he has. He is a pure player who is appreciated by his team mates.”
