Jagoba Arrasate admitted that Real Sociedad ‘were not strong’ against Barcelona, but defended his decision to make seven changes to the line-up.
The young Coach rang the changes to the side for Tuesday evening’s Week 6 encounter and saw them comprehensively put aside in the first half at Camp Nou.
With Real chasing a 3-0 deficit going into the second half, the match finished 4-1 in Barca’s favour, but with the visitors’ Coach defiant.
“I do not have a feeling of having given away the game,” Arrasate reflected afterwards.
“The first goal has reflected what happened in the game – we were not strong and they have been able to score.
“We had a clear chance at the beginning [when Haris Seferovic hit the crossbar]. We defended badly in the first real action at the other end and paid dearly. Both at Vallecas before us and here, Barcelona played a very smart game.
“Seven changes made to the line-up? I never think about the critics but only what suits the team. I do not have to explain the line-up.
“We did not give anything away, we began well, but were not strong and in the first half the game was decided.
“I find it very difficult to stay level with both Barca and Madrid. Even if you find you are doing well, what happens, happens.”
Xabi Prieto was pulled off in the first half for having suffered a suspected thigh injury.
“He has a contusion and we will wait and see what the tests say. It seems he has blood in the muscle and that can complicate things. Now we will rest well and think about the next game.”
