Diego Simeone is happy with Atletico Madrid’s close win over Osasuna on Tuesday evening, which has maintained their 100 per start.
Los Colchoneros saw an early two goals from Diego Costa ultimately settle Week 6’s clash at the Vicente Calderon in their favour, in spite of Oriol Riera pulling one back for the visitors before the break.
“These games are complicated and close and at 2-1, there are always possibilities because it is a single goal’s difference,” mused Simeone post-match.
“Up to the 33rd minute, the team did very well, then they pulled one back in the last minutes of the first half.
“The second half was the same, not the result itself but the chances. We needed to win and the players won it in the best way, but it's good to be going through stages that we will come across in the season, because it is very long and hard and there are no easy games.
“Where we focused on Real Madrid this weekend already? No, it was that we could not find a way through. Osasuna closed out the space properly.
“This win is very good for us because it brings further value to [Week 5’s] win at Real Valladolid. We made five rotations to the team to ensure that they were as strong as possible.”
Diego Costa’s double moves him level in the scoring charts with Lionel Messi.
“He's a young player growing since he has returned. He has earned everything he has and to me has a lot more to improve.
“Hopefully he wants it that way because he's ambitious, intelligent and I hope he continues growing.”
Next up for Atleti is the derby away to Real Madrid.
“We are working hard, look game by game and we are doing things right at Atletico Madrid.
“It's a good time, people are happy everyday and responsibility and requirement grows even more and for that we need to rest and train hard.”
