Isco has warned that Real Madrid cannot and won’t be ‘obsessed’ with winning a 10th European Cup this season, even if ‘this may be the year’.
Madrid are into an 11th season of looking for their 10th title in the Champions League and begin their latest campaign tomorrow evening away to Galatasaray.
Even in having strengthened heavily in the summer, one of their new arrivals has looked to ease pressure heading into the competition.
“We cannot become obsessed with winning the Champions League,” Isco told reporters today.
“It is very difficult, but we intend to try. We will give it everything, it is important to begin well, but not to obsess.
“No-one in the dressing room has spoken about obsession, it’s a dream to win La Decima, we have the team and the confidence to win, but you have to work hard to achieve this goal and we will try.
“This year may be the year, we will have to work hard and then we will see.
“My work in Europe? I hope to help the team as much as possible. We should be pushing altogether because we will be facing the best teams in Europe.
“We must be united and assume each game as they come.”
The playmaker considered Madrid’s opponents tomorrow evening.
“They are in their field and with their fans they are doubly strong. They have two great strikers but we have to play our game.”
