Madrid deny Perez’s Ozil quotes

Real Madrid have reacted to an outburst from the father of Mesut Ozil, distancing themselves from a story that has caused his anger.

Mustafa Ozil told Bild on Thursday of his disappointment at and intention to seek legal advice against an ABC story published earlier this week that attributed quotes to Madrid President Florentino Perez that were of a disparaging nature regarding Mesut Ozil’s professionalism whilst with the club.

On from ABC printing a retraction clarifying that Perez was not quoted and no-one from Madrid spoke to them, Los Blancos have reportedly sent a statement to Bild to clarify their position further.

“1. It is denied that President Florentino Perez or any member of the football club has had anything to do with the Spanish newspaper that published the story about Ozil,” began the statement run on the German publication’s website today.

“2. The Spanish daily newspaper in which this story was published denies any kind of relationship these days with any person in the club. In a Press release it was confirmed by the newspaper that no-one from the club was in contact at any time and that no statement on the subject was made.

“3. Real Madrid regrets the statements that have nothing to do with the football club and have caused the reactions of the player’s father, they do not correspond to the truth and are totally out of place.

“4. Real Madrid has spoken repeated of their thanks to Mesut Ozil and wish him all the best for the future.”
