Del Bosque values Chile test

Vicente del Bosque sees the value in facing Chile on Tuesday and has impressed upon his players to take the South Americans seriously.

After Friday’s World Cup qualifying win in Helsinki, La Roja are in Geneva for a friendly with Jorge Sampaoli’s outfit.

“We will have the opportunity for players to have an increased role, for us to see them and it will be useful,” reflected Del Bosque on the game’s worth to reporters pre-match.

“October is just around the corner and two games that can give us qualification to the World Cup.

“Our opponents? Either we take Chile seriously or will have it tough because they are highly competitive and are always pushing forward.

“They have always given us a lot of trouble. We must keep in mind that we have had tough matches against Chile before.”

Del Bosque was asked if speculation was right that Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina would feature in the game.

“Any decision we make will create a debate, we accept it as natural and will continue for the game. We have to take it in our stride. All three goalkeepers are excellent and any of them would be acceptable.

“Tomorrow, the two goalkeepers who did not play against Finland will play. We will make all the changes.”

The 62-year-old was also asked if the squad was closed already ahead of the World Cup.

“We have a very large squad to respond to any problem, there are people who have contributed a lot, whilst the youngster continue pressing too, but first we have to qualify for the World Cup.”

David Silva was a late withdrawal for this game through injury.

“He arrived to us with a knock sustained playing with Manchester City. [Sunday] he completed training well, but then had some discomfort and it seems like a small strain, but it seems minor. He wanted to be with us.”
