Del Bosque silent over Casillas pick

Vicente Del Bosque has refused to comment on the reasons why he chose Iker Casillas for Spain’s win over Finland.

Victor Valdes had expected to take his place in the side for the World Cup qualifier in Helsinki. But the Coach opted instead for the Real Madrid man – despite the fact he’s yet to play this season.

“This isn’t the right time to start a debate,” he told reporters. “Time will put everything in its place.

“What goes on at his club is a different matter.

“It was a very difficult match, not for the quality that Finland have but because they made us very uncomfortable by playing so tightly and forcing us to play in a very congested half. Every time they launched a counter attack, they broke quickly and caused danger”.

“We’ve taken three points and that is the main thing. It was important for us to do that. As France drew their game tonight, this victory puts us three points clear”.

La Roja edged closer to the tournament in Brazil with a 2-0 win.
