Mediapro eye midday Clasico

Mediapro President Jaume Roures has once more indicated plans to stage a League meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona at a midday kick-off.

The Sunday lunchtime position was introduced into the fixture list in 2011-12, with both Madrid and Barca having trialled the time.

Recent months have seen it increasingly suggested by Mediapro that more midday slots be introduced into the season, to target the Asian television audience, and that a Clasico could be scheduled this season in it too.

Barcelona host Madrid in Week 10, in a set of fixtures to be provisionally played over the weekend of October 26 and 27.

“This year, for all the conditions for the first match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, on how it is positioned in the calendar, it can be played at that time,” Roures has told Cadena Cope this week.

“It is not yet decided because there are still two months to go, but the conditions are there.

“It would be an international blockbuster. In Asia, more people are fans of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo than they are of Barcelona or Real Madrid.”

Roures also acknowledged that Week 5’s fixture between Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona is going to be set for the midday kick-off.
