Thibaut Courtois has welcomed his fellow Belgian international Toby Alderweireld to Atletico Madrid, enthusing that he will be a ‘great signing’.
Defender Alderweireld joined Atleti in the final few days of the transfer window in a deal from Ajax as replacement for Martin Demichelis and he has been welcomed by his compatriot.
“He will be a great signing,” Courtois has told reporters this week about his 24-year-old teammate.
“He is a strong centre-back, burly and he can also act as a right-back. He is going to be a very interesting player for our squad.
“The increased competition for places? We must all fight for a spot. We train for that.
“There is competition for everyone, including Miranda and Godin, as the season will be very long and to have a balanced workforce is essential.”
