Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez claimed that he was surprised by his Spanish national team call-up.
The Blancos full-back has been named in Vicente Del Bosque’s Roja squad for the World Cup qualifier with Finland.
And the 23-year-old has insisted that he was shocked by the news, whilst also remarking on Iker Casillas and Gareth Bale.
“I was at home with my family when I heard,” he told reporters. “I only heard because I was bombarded with messages and whatsapps.
“It really was the last thing to cross my mind.
“I was so surprised. I didn’t believe it when I heard. It’s been a gift from heaven.
“I haven’t spoken with Del Bosque yet. But I am grateful for the confidence he has shown in me.
“Casillas told me to take my opportunity, which was nice. He also told me to enjoy it.
“Bale? I’m happy he’s joined. Gareth is a great player and has shown in England that he can win us games.”
