Schuster saw Malaga improvement

Bernd Schuster was encouraged by Malaga’s performance at Sevilla, which helped them record a 2-2 draw.

Goals from Pedro Morales and Roque Santa Cruz ensured that the Costa del Sol outfit picked up their first point of the season, after defeats to Valencia and Barcelona in previous weeks.

“We could have won here tonight, much like last weekend and indeed our first match of the season,” mused Schuster post-match.

“However we improved as the game went on and imposed our style of play at a difficult ground. Little by little we’ll gain more points. We’ve had a tough first three games.

“The draw was a fair result in a balanced match tonight. We were determined for victory from kick off, and I think there were times when we should have increased our lead when we were 1-2 up.

“It was unfortunate that we conceded the equalisers quickly after we scored.”

Recent signing Mounir El Hamdaoui debuted for the Anchovies.

“I would have liked him to play for longer to be honest. He showed pace, power and skill on the pitch tonight, and I think he’ll give us more options in our attacking display.”
